Madeleine Kalb grew up in the East Coast in and around New York City. Madeleine received her first sewing machine when she was a little girl, washing her parents cars for a summer. Not knowing how to operate the machine but absolutely admiring it, Madeleine picked up hand sewing... while the sewing machine collected dust.
When Madeleine was 13 she began studying painting, illustration, and photography at the Silver Mine Art Guild in which she became connected with Miss Moregan Zale. Zale was a fashion design pioneer in 1970s San Francisco and later a costume designer for Patti LaBelle. Madeleine accepted an apprenticeship from Zale which continued until 2010, finally using her hard earned sewing machine.
Additionally, throughout high school, Madeleine interned for fashion designers in New York City.
In 2010, Madeleine moved to Dallas, TX to study fashion at University of North Texas. She spent her summers back home in New York City working for designers like Milly New York and Tommy Hilfiger. Madeleine left UNT in 2012 to move into the city of Dallas where Dolly’s D-Lite was born.
All designs are entirely unique to Dolly’s D-Lite, from pattern to completed garment. All designs are handmade by solely Madeleine.
Madeleine is engaged to Bernhard Ballin who she shares 1 year old Hunter Ballin with.
